Blessed by a Definition

Listening to a sermon today, I heard a new definition of God's love, one that I pray will transform my heart and the way I define those circumstances in my life that tend to perplex or provoke me or cause me to despair. It is a definition of God's love as stated by John Piper, a quickly becoming favorite preacher/theologian of mine.

He defines God's love as such:

His [God's] doing whatever needs to be done at whatever cost to Himself or to us so that we will see and be satisfied by the love of God and the glory of God in Jesus Christ.

Read it again, slowly. Write it down and keep it on your kitchen counters to look at and meditate on throughout your day. I highly recommend listening to the entire sermon, and you can do so by clicking here. Type in "General" under Sermon series, "John Piper" under Preacher and "11-18-2001" under the date. The title of this message is Thankful for the Love of God! Why? It should pop up for you to listen to or download on your computer.

May you be blessed and more importantly, changed by this definition of God's love.

I haven't been listening to much Piper lately. I'm glad for the quote! Gives me my fix :) .

That defintion grips, doesn't it? I've been pondering more (esp since Paul Tripp's msg 'Lost in the Middle') what it is to be truly satisfied in Christ alone, to find my identity there.
